What to do on a Rainy Day

Today it is raining, the first wet day since Hurricane Harvey. This rain is of the normal kind and maybe signals the start of our Texas Fall. It is dark outside of my window as the clouds have socked in and the rain falls.

I welcome the rain as does my garden. The plants open their leaves to gather in the precious moisture to give them life and the roots drink as the water seeps into the ground.

I sit indoors and write away on my computer trying to express my thoughts and feelings into words that other may share. Rainy days are so few and far between here in my part of Texas that I welcome them.

I have a couple of projects outside that I need to finish but they will keep until the rain has moved on as I am only too glad to see it fall. So different than when I lived in England and it seemed like it rained every day, enough to drive me to this country after I was given the opportunity.

Tomorrow, the sun will shine and the clouds will blow away and we will be through with the rain for a couple of days but this is Fall in Texas and it will rain again. Between now and the Spring, the creeks will fill and the rivers will flow stronger. Until the Summer and they will be dry.

The Wildflowers at Reimers Ranch 5-2-2017

Spring, the most wonderful time of the year when Mother Nature decorates the land with her beautiful paintings as she wields her brush. Enjoy the video taken of the flowers at Milton Reimers Ranch in Travis County.

Spring. The most wonderful time of the year.

SpringTime, which never really stops, has marched forward for another year and it is Spring.

Spring, a time of new growth and new beginnings as Mother Nature awakes in a constant cycle of seasons.

Trees, which just a week ago were bare are now proudly sprouting new growth and a new cover of fresh green leaves.

Plants are pushing their way through the soil and green leaves and flowers are everywhere.

Things and distances that I could see just a week ago are now no longer visible, hidden by a beautiful canopy of green.

The birds are singing and looking for a mate, if they have not already found one.

The fish in the ponds are chasing each other around as the males swim against the females to stimulate the reproduction process.

Babies, the ever wonderful way of Nature to re-produce herself.

Spring, a time of re-growth and new growth.

Everything is painted a fresh new green.
and the cycles go on and on….

Spring Time

Springtime

Springtime

I love the spring
when everything is green
and looks so new.

The animals and birds know its spring
as they chase each other around
following their natural tendencies
to breed.

Even humans seem more cheerful
as they go about their tasks
with everyone happy.

I love the spring
as Mother Nature shines out
in all of her glory.

Thinking about everything and nothing…

Wildflowers in Spring

Wildflowers in Spring

The sun is shining at last
as the ice melts from my roof
and the temperature slowly climbs
above the freezing where it has been
with weather we have not seen
or experienced as we have this year.

We are not used to cold this late
as normally our spring would start
but Nature has gone a little askew
and we suffer the residue
of the poor folks up North
who have to dig out each time it snows
and when the winter wind blows
their weather down through the land
until it settles in our great state
spoiling our expectations of late.

I notice I feel the cold
much more as I grow old
and wish for much warmer climes
and know that I only have to wait
a short while as the temperature will climb
very quickly to where it will soon be
as high as one hundred and three
and maybe even higher yet
here in Texas.

Today is one of those days
where I am marking time
my visit to the doctors tomorrow
requires preparation on my part
which I am waiting to start
later this afternoon
the end result for me will be
a little incapacity
which will not allow me to stray
very far anywhere today.

So I sit and write of the thoughts in my head
the weather for one which is high on my list
nothing I can do to change it so
to plan around it is the way to go
and know that in a couple of days
I will be as right as rain
and the weather will cooperate
and let me get back out in the yard
the work to complete
as we get ready for the Spring.
