Who Says Things Don’t Grow in Texas.

I am just so impressed with the amount of growth this year here in Texas that I have made a video of my backyard showing all of the ponds and the amount of vegetation that has grown up in and around them. We never had a single frost this past winter which normally knocks all of the vegetation down resulting in new growth each Spring. This year, as nothing had died, it just kept on growing. The Canas and Iris in the ponds are well over six feet tall and the Esperanza’s are double in size and reaching way up to the skies. I have plants that normally get to be about four feet tall and this year, the are well over twice that size.

One thing is for sure. If it freezes, then I will have a huge cleanup job. On the other side, if it doesn’t freeze I will need to start cutting back and will still have a huge cleanup job.

Such is life as a gardener in Texas.

  1. I wish I could leave Canas in the ground but it gets too cold here. It was always such a chore, digging them all up, storing them and then replanting in the spring. I did it for a while but there were just too many of them. Pity, because I did enjoy seeing their bright colors and the hummingbirds they attracted. I love your garden! And the video.

    • You are right. It was and still is a labor of love although I suppose that I need to start thinking ” down the road”. Don’t know how long I can maintain these and no one will buy a house with 5 ponds.. Thanks for the comment.

    • I’m not much of a gardener and I couldn’t get grass to grow under the trees so elected to build the ponds instead and just filled in around them with Native plants. Thaks for commenting…

    • Yesterday, I went for a hike with friends and the temperature was 85 degrees. Our usual problems are lack of rain in the summer and yes, it gets interesting sometimes. Thanks for commenting.
